Anthem Delivers a Heady Mix of Performance and Value

Anthem is a well-known name to discerning audiophiles who like top-tier performance and value for their audio dollar. Anthem is part of Paradigm, the Canadian audio company known for research-based engineering and high-value products from affordable to high-end.

Anthem’s home theater audio line offers something for everyone, with a line of receivers for different size spaces to separates for those seeking the ultimate in performance. While their products have all the features you want to use in a home theater or media room, Anthem eschews feature bloat to focus on audio quality.

A few months ago, we detailed Anthem Audio’s updated receiver line for those that prefer a one-box solution for home theater sound. In this blog, we’ll focus on separates – the AV processor and amplifiers – for those rooms and audiophiles that want that extra power and precision that comes from separate components. Keep reading to learn more about Anthem’s home multichannel audio separates to see if they’re right for your Henrico County, VA home cinema.

Why Separates Components?

Home theater receivers are popular solutions for a complete surround sound solution in one box. Why would you want separates? Simply put, there are dividends in audio quality when you separate audio components. Power supplies are critical in high-end audio; you want clean current that won't introduce any distortion into the electronics. Separating the input switching and audio and video processing from the amplification section allows the engineers to better package components, provide more robust power supplies, reduce crosstalk and distortion, and more efficiently manage heat than in a one-box receiver solution. The extra space also allows for extra performance niceties like balanced outputs for all channels in the processor to deliver the cleanest preamp signal possible to the amplifiers.

AVM Processors

Anthem’s previous processor products like the AVM 50 and the Statement D2 garnered rave reviews from the audio world. As digital audio and video formats continue to advance, the new AVM 70 and AVM 90 (available in fall 2021) pack all the latest features you need for a state-of-the-art home theater. Starting with the AVM 70, the processor packs 15.2 channels of decoding. That allows for three sets of height speakers and three sets of surround speakers to get the most from today’s immersive Dolby Atmos and DTS:X soundtracks. On the video side, support for Dolby Vision and HDR passthrough allows the AVM processor to be the nerve center for your home theater, connecting Blu-ray players, streaming devices, PS5 and Xbox, and media servers. The AVM 90 will expand the subwoofer capability to four (15.4 configuration) for even more powerful bass in larger rooms.

The AVMs don't leave music out of the equation either. Apple Airplay2 and Bluetooth allow for convenient streaming of your favorite music in stereo or upmixed to take advantage of your multichannel system. Anthem will soon add Spotify Connect and Roon support (via firmware updates) for even more ease of music streaming and playback of your own music library, including high-resolution tracks.

MCA Gen 2 Amplifiers

Anthem’s MCA amplifiers are the perfect match for the AVM processors. Available in 2-channel, 3-channel, and five-channel models, you can combine them to power a full 15.2 or 15.4 channel setup. With 225 watts/channel, toroidal transformers, advanced power regulators, oversized heatsinks, and robust construction to last for many years, these amplifiers can provide the juice to the most demanding cinema speakers. Whether listening to music or handling the wide dynamics from the most powerful action soundtracks, the MCA amplifiers deliver the audio quality you expect from the best.

And More…

Anthem Room Correction (ARC) is widely regarded as one of the best in the business. Built into the AVM processors, it uses audio acoustic science to tighten and tune bass response, reduce colorations, and adjust for room geometry, materials, furnishings, and other issues that impact audio quality. It is one of the secret weapons that make Anthem products sound so good. Couple ARC with additional features like compatibility with advanced home automation systems like Control4, and you have a winning combination for the audio centerpiece for your home cinema.
